Juncus distegus
Our botanical whizz, Marley Ford, was up checking on the weed control at Waikereru in February when he spotted this locally rare reed, Juncus distegus, beside a fence line. On a cabbage tree, he found a very rare lichen.
At Waikereru, many rare Tairāwhiti plants are being looked after for future generations.
